This tour offers a fascinating glimpse into the ancient civilizations that shaped Peru’s cultural heritage.
Itinerary
We will meet at our designated meeting point to depart towards the Chavín de Huántar ruins. Along the way, you will visit the towns of Recuay, Ticapampa, and Catac. From here, we will continue towards the Cordillera Blanca until we reach the shores of Laguna Querococha, situated at an altitude of 3,890 meters. This glacier-origin water body, located in the Áncash region, has a dark green color and is surrounded by stands of queñual trees.
Continuing along the route, you will encounter the Cahuish Tunnel, which marks the natural boundary between the Callejón de Huaylas and the Callejón de Conchucos, at an altitude of 4,516 meters. From here, we will begin our descent towards the town of Chavín, where you will have the opportunity to observe local towns with traditional buildings and attire.
In Chavín, you can immerse yourself in the culture and history of the area, as this site was the administrative and religious center of the Chavín culture, constructed and occupied approximately between 1500 and 300 BC. You will have lunch at a local restaurant in the town and take some time to rest before starting the return journey to Huaraz.
