Laguna Rocotuyoc is a stunning, lesser-known glacial lake located in the Ancash region of Peru, nestled within the majestic Cordillera Blanca.
This tranquil lake, surrounded by towering peaks and lush Andean landscapes, offers a serene and picturesque setting for those seeking a more off-the-beaten-path adventure.

Itinerary

We will pick you up from your accommodation in the city of Huaraz to head north to the district of Marcará. Along the way, you will pass through the community of Vicos before entering Huascarán National Park. You will follow the path through the Paqcharuri Gorge, surrounded by a forest, until you reach Laguna Rocotuyoc, which is situated at an altitude of 4,500 meters. If the weather is clear, you will be able to see the lake’s blue and green hues against the backdrop of the glacier, a true natural wonder in this part of Peru’s mountain range.
Next, you will undertake a moderate 1-hour hike to reach the frozen lake and get closer to the glacier (a total of 2 hours, including the return trip), where you can rest and admire the breathtaking mountainous landscape, as well as take photographs to remember your visit. From this vantage point, you will also enjoy views of the snow-capped peaks of Paccharaju, Copa, Akilpo, and others.
After this experience, you will begin your return journey, with stops to visit the Paqcharuri waterfall and the rock paintings. You will also make a stop at a restaurant for lunch (not included) before continuing the drive back to Huaraz.
